Karen offers the
following types of massage sessions:
Therapeutic massage which is a personalized combination of all the modalities she has studied including Swedish relaxation, myofascial and muscle release, trigger point therapy, deep tissue, craniosacral, LaStone therapy, Thai Yoga massage and Reiki. Each session is dynamic to meet the client’s wants and needs.
Thai Yoga massage is performed on the floor on a mat with the client dressed in comfortable, stretchy clothing. The session is very opening and lengthening, always respecting each client’s level of flexibility. You will walk away stimulated and quite relaxed.
LaStone therapy is one of the most nurturing, totally relaxing forms of massage. The session utilizes the warmth of heated smooth river stones that connects you intimately to the energies of Mother Earth. All tension melts away, making room for absolute and total relaxation.
Biography
Karen graduated from Massage Away Inc. School of Therapy, in March 2001, where she studied Swedish Massage. She has training and practical experience in Thai Yoga Massage, Reiki II, Craniosacral, LaStone Therapy, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular and Trigger Point. She has a license in Ohio, Virginia and National Certification for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). She is a professional member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).
Karen honors and empowers the inner healer within us all. She knows that the body will always try to maintain and return to a healthy state of being. She works with each individual to nurture the body/mind/spirit connection, which supports their overall well being and happiness. She is particularly passionate regarding the healing potential of touch.
Karen is an advocate for children and the earth. She contributes both time and money to support these causes. She understands that the health of the earth and our environment directly affects the health of all living beings. She also believes that each and every child is entitled to know and understand love through life experiences.
Karen enjoys yoga, gardening, nature, reading, and spending time just being. She is unarguably the most talented massage therapist we have ever met here at the Highlands Nature Sanctuary. Each year at our annual Women's Retreat at Beechcliff, Karen has made a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary, giving massages to participants and gifting the entire proceeds to the Sanctuary. In this way she has raised nearly $1000 for land acquisition with each visit. Everyone here who has ever experienced one of her massages quickly become one of her many advocates. Whether she gives you a Thai Massage -- which is like surrendering to yoga; or massaged with hot stones in her La Stone therapy, or enjoying a traditional massage --- Karen's many skills are prominently evident.
As we list her praises, let us also quickly add that -- and perhaps most importantly -- Karen is an outstanding human being. An infectious laugh, warm hugs, and an enthusiasm for life make her a welcome sight wherever she goes.
